Over a year ago the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso aired. In many ways that finale perfectly captured the story arc of Ted Lasso, the college football coach who left his gridiron dreams — and his family — behind to take over AFC Richmond, an English soccer club on the other side of the pond.
For three seasons the show on Apple TV+ delivered memorable moments, leading up to a finale that we here at SB Nation described as a “perfectly imperfect conclusion.”
But could the show — or at least the Ted Lasso universe — be making a comeback?
That door seems to be open, thanks to comments made by Channing Dungey, the chairman and CEO of Warner Bros Television Group, on Monday.
Speaking at a panel moderated by Deadline, Dungey hinted that fans may not have seen the last of the Ted Lasso universe. Whether that takes the form of a fourth season, a spin-off, or something else, remains to be seen.
“We’ve had conversations about all of the above,” said Dungey on Monday. “I think Jason Sudeikis is open to the idea, but I think he wants to have the right idea, which I appreciate it. We at Warner Bros appreciate, Apple appreciates, because it’s the sort of thing where you don’t want to go do more, just for the sake of more, you want to go do more, because you actually have something to say, you have a story that you want to tell.
“We’ll see what happens.”
It is worth mentioning that Ted Lasso, while an Apple TV+ original, was produced by Warner Brothers. Which means if Ted Lasso were to return in some form, Dungey would have the requisite knowledge.
This is just the latest inkling that the story could continue in some form. On social media Nick Mohammed — who played Nathan Shelley on the series — promoted the upcoming release in DVD format with a wink and a nod to the title:
