FairyTale House of Puppets and Wine in Český Krumlov, Czechia

What pairs best with Czech wines, well puppets of course! The POHÁDKOVÝM DOMEM, or FairyTale house, is a eclectic and entertaining combination  puppet museum and massive wine collection  in Český Krumlov.

Puppets are everywhere in Czechia, and it’s a UNESCO recognizes heritage. Some of the most well known puppet craftsman and masters, including the owners of the house and collections, hailed from the Bohemian region. The family owned museum pays homage to that tradition.

The house itself is interesting, it’s stone construction dates from the 14th century and it’s even rumored to be haunted. Downstairs is a very impressive wine cellar, while upstairs and in the attic is fascinating exhibit of puppets.

The puppet displays, from small fairies to giant dragons, highlight the craftsmanship of local South Bohemian, Czech and foreign master carvers and puppeteers. The over 400 puppet characters themselves are a creative tour through Czech fairy tales, including princes, damsels, witches and devils.

There is a interactive puppet theater where guests can try their hands at puppet mastering a diverse sample of puppet characters.

The resident spirit, Vilemina, while unhappy, is harmless. It usually appears as a misty cloud that follows guests.
