Facial recognition systems are flawed and biased. Police departments are using them anyway.

A British police officer stands in front of a police van with a sign warning the public that the police are using live facial recognition technology.

U.K. police have experimented with the use of facial recognition technology on live surveillance video in public areas, as seen in this photo. In the U.S., police departments are also embracing the technology despite evidence these systems are racially-biased and unreliable, leading in some cases to wrongful arrests.
